During the winter transfer window, Alejandro Garnacho found himself at the center of speculation, with rumors linking him to a move away from Manchester United. Despite the interest, the young forward stayed at Old Trafford, and behind the scenes, there were some intriguing details about how a potential transfer could have unfolded.

According to The Daily Mail, Garnacho was no longer seen as “untouchable” at United, attracting attention from several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.

While an immediate move wasn’t expected, United was reportedly open to offers in the region of £70 million. However, that valuation may have been too steep for clubs like Atlético Madrid and Juventus.

Journalist Steve Kay also reported that Tottenham had made serious inquiries about Garnacho while CaughtOffside noted ongoing interest from Atlético, PSG, and Juventus. United might have been willing to sell if the right offer had come in.

With the winter transfer window now closed, Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna shared that the Serie A club held talks with the 20-year-old and nearly reached an agreement with Manchester United.

“There were many who didn’t leave. We dealt with Garnacho even before Kvara’s departure,” Manna explained, per Corriere dello Sport. “We made an important offer and came close to United’s demands.

“The player wanted to be satisfied financially, but I didn’t find that fair to the other players. We have an average wage level.”
