He has had a career many people can only dream of: Bayern legend Thomas Müller. After the 2-0 loss against PSG, his time at Bayern Munich has officially come to an end.
His Bayern career in numbers: 25 years at the club, 33 titles, 756 games for the club, 250 goals scored and 276 assists provided. Müller is Bayern's all time record player and assist provider, only Gerd Müller and Robert Lewandowski have scored more goals for the club. His name won't be forgotten.
Müller's last years in Munich have been rather difficult - he lost his starting place and wasn't able to be as important to the club as he was before. These arguments and his huge wages on top were the reason, why his contract was not extended anymore.
The last game of his Bayern career against PSG was also not the dream ending Müller would have hoped for: the 2-0 loss is simultaneously the end of Bayern's FIFA Club World Cup run.
Müller's first thoughts after the game: “A defeat like this one is always difficult. The game had everything and both teams showed great performances. We made life very difficult for them [PSG]. In the end however, they had a few great chances.”
“I personally always had the feeling. that we were close [to scoring the equaliser], but a little bit was always missing. The game had a very wild final phase, also with the red cards, where the game got a little unfair. As I've said many times, you can't buy yourself anything with just a good perfoamance.”
Müller on the possible late penalty: “Well I didn't get hit in the face, but there was contact. It could or should've been an indirect freekick under these circumstances. But even the penalty wouldn't have changed anything most likely, because we had no time left.”
Müller on Musiala's injury: “I did not hear what exact injury he has, but stuff like this is always so incredibly tough. You [the teammates] try to concentrate on the game, but the pictures stay in your head. At the end of the day, us players are not robots, but have personal relationships with one another. I wish him a good recovery; it's extremly bitter for him, as he has just come back from another injury.”
Müller on his exit from Bayern Munich: “Normally I would have to process the loss today and I will. The usual procedure for that would be to get back to the team hotel and focus on the next challenge - but I'm going back to pack my bags and leave. I'll need time to fully process it! It's a very strange feeling to be honest.”
Müller has not yet decided, whether his football career is over or not. This decision will surely be made in the coming days and/or weeks. His Bayern career however, has ended now - a Bayern, Germany and Bundesliga legend has now left the stage.
