The Special One was among those sending birthday wishes to Moratti today, and he did so through his Instagram account: “My President! Many wishes for a happy birthday,” wrote Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician posted a picture alongside Moratti during celebrations of Inter’s Champions League victory in 2010.

Mourinho spent two years at the Stadio Meazza, winning two Serie A titles, one Supercoppa, one Coppa Italia and one Champions League.

Mou left Inter for Real Madrid in 2010, right after winning the Champions League for the Nerazzurri.

A few years later, he explained his decision and reiterated that he had an excellent relationship with Moratti.

“I’m always very honest with others and with myself. I could have gone to Real Madrid after my first season with Inter, but I had signed to stay more than a year. I had an incredible relationship, not only with the president, but also with his wife and children,” Mou said in 2023.

“I went to Moratti’s house at the end of the first season and we came to the conclusion that I would stay one more year. It wasn’t victory or defeat in the Champions League final that would’ve decided my life, I already knew what I was going to do, and I wanted to go to Real Madrid.

“The opportunity came for the second time and I wanted to go, it was a moment in my career where I told myself I had to. They’re the biggest club in the world, there is no history, but I had that thing of winning the Serie A title.

“The smart players already knew what I was going to decide, after the Champions League final I didn’t go back to Milan because I was afraid that emotions would change, and I would never go to Real Madrid again.”

Moratti turns 80: Inter’s message

Inter also sent their birthday wishes to Moratti through their official website.

“80 years, a lifelong Interista. Massimo Moratti, along with his family, is a part of this Club’s history, thanks to his total dedication and unconditional love for this football Club,” the Nerazzurri said.

“Born in Bosco Chiesanuova on 16 May 1945, Moratti served as Inter’s chairman from 1995 to 2004 and again from 2006 to 2013. He was also named honourary Chairman in 2014. During his tenure, the Club won 16 major honours. His is a story that has touched generations of Interisti and football lovers, one that is rich with emotions, great players, and titles. That incredible journey was recognised in 2018, when the Moratti family oversaw his induction in the Inter Hall of Fame. Today, on his 80th birthday, the Club and the fans would like to wish Massimo Moratti a very happy birthday.”
