Milan are scouring the market for a potential new striker and have set sights on Jonathan Burkardt, who’s having a breakout season at Mainz. He has totaled 15 goals and 3 assists in 25 appearances.
According to Mediaset (via 90min), the German forward would become a concrete target especially if Igli Tare was appointed as their new sporting director. He’ll have another meeting with CEO Giorgio Furlani soon. It could be the deciding one, as the clock is ticking. There has been no tangible progress in the chases of officials under contract with other sides.
Milan are in the hunt for a new no.9 as Santiago Gimenez has fallen into a slump shortly after joining, and Burkardt is on a shortlist that comprises Lorenzo Lucca, Monaco’s Mika Biereth, and more expensive targets like Moise Kean and Mateo Retegui, Calciomercato informs.
The Rossoneri could spend about €30M on their new marksman. The price tag of some of their targets exceeds such a threshold. The 24-year-old debuted with Germany last October.
It’d be quite the vote of no-confidence toward Gimenez if they signed another top-notch striker. It wouldn’t be overly surprising, as bringing in a new exec tends to lead to changes of heart about players and even recent newcomers. Still, it often pays off to be patient with foreigners. Eventually, they should onboard somebody who has already succeeded in Serie A to avoid running into the same issue again. If they were willing to play the long game, confirming their current trio without spending too much might not be the worst idea.
