Real Madrid may still add one more name to their squad before the transfer window closes, and the focus is now on Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
As such, according to journalist Laurie Whitwell, the youngster is open to leaving Old Trafford before the deadline due to growing frustration with his situation.
His preference is reportedly a move to a European club, which could give Madrid fresh hope of sealing a late deal.
It is said that United have quietly considered the idea of selling Mainoo throughout the summer, although it was never their main plan.
But the lack of playing time under Ruben Amorim has changed things, with the player’s role reduced and his importance inside the squad diminishing.
The timing could work perfectly for Los Blancos, who are still adjusting to life without Dani Ceballos after his recent departure.

Club sources suggest that Madrid have not entirely closed their transfer business and could look at Mainoo as a last-minute signing.
Atletico Madrid and several Premier League clubs are also keeping an eye on the situation, but Madrid’s need for midfield depth gives them an edge.
At the moment, the most realistic path would be a loan move until the end of the season. Mainoo’s contract runs until June 2027, but there is little sign of him committing to fresh terms.
Those close to the midfielder say he has no intention of renewing under current circumstances, and his stance is no longer seen as just a negotiation tactic.
Mainoo’s unhappiness is becoming more evident by the day. If his opportunities don’t improve quickly at United, a departure looks inevitable, if not in this window, then in the next.
For Real Madrid, this could be the perfect moment to act, giving them a young and dynamic midfielder while offering Mainoo the chance to relaunch his career at the Santiago Bernabéu.
