A major twist has occurred in the future of Dani Ceballos in recent hours. Reports had claimed that the midfielder was very close to joining Marseille on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the season, with a mandatory purchase clause.

However, the 29-year-old Spaniard ended up blocking the move at the last minute, with reports suggesting that he wanted to sign for his boyhood club Real Betis, who had reignited their interest in him.

No offer from Real Betis

But, now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Real Betis have firmly denied that any offer was made to Real Madrid for Ceballos from their end.

The Andalusian club remain focused on their talks with Manchester United regarding a possible deal for Brazilian winger Antony, negotiations that are proving to be far from straightforward.

If true, this leaves Ceballos in limbo as Marseille have fully withdrawn themselves from the transfer race after he decided to halt talks initially.

In case there is no approach from Betis or if they do make an offer that does not meet Real Madrid’s satisfaction, the midfielder might end up being forced to stay put at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he does not have a major role in Xabi Alonso’s plans.

Indeed, Ceballos barely featured at the FIFA Club World Cup and has started both of Real Madrid’s La Liga matches in the new season on the bench.

Continuing at the club and not playing regularly would hurt his chances of making the Spain squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With less than a week left before the transfer window slams shut, it remains to be seen how the situation with the Spanish midfielder evolves.
