A fourth successive Premier League title for Manchester City remains “so far away” for Pep Guardiola’s players, Nathan Ake has insisted despite their sensational run of form.

City maintained their 31-game unbeaten record across all competitions on Sunday afternoon courtesy of a far-from comfortable 0-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland.

Goals either side of the half-time interval secured Manchester City all three points and ensured that the destiny of this season’s Premier League title remains firmly in their own hands, despite multiple attempts from Nottingham Forest to win the game themselves.

However, despite some already insisting that Manchester City will cruise to four victories from their remaining four matches in the Premier League and win a fourth successive top-flight crown, one defender has reaffirmed that anything is far from over in the division.

Speaking after the 0-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon, Nathan Ake has insisted that despite the league crown remaining in the hands of Manchester City, the prospect of a fourth successive title success remains “so far away”.

“I think everyone’s got the experience but in the end experience doesn’t really make a difference. It’s about now, what we do now,” Ake insisted in reference to Manchester City’s recent history during the business end of seasons.

“At the moment it’s going well but we know what we have to do in the end — win four games and we can be champions again. It [the end] is so close but it’s also so far away. I think every game is going to be a tough one.”

He continued, “It felt like today people expect us to win but it’s never easy, these kind of games. Next week we have another that will be tough and the only thing we can do is game by game. I know it sounds cliched but it is the only thing I can do.

“I think today was a tough one. All the circumstances and the way they played, it’s very tough to come here. They made it very tough but we dug in and got the three points.”

Following his appearance in the centre of defence for Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday, Nathan Ake has now racked up 40 appearances across all competitions for the Treble winners this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the process.

Despite the signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig last summer, Ake has ensured that his status within the first-team squad has remained untouched, offering a multitude of talents when deployed at either centre-back or left-back.
