Man Utd injury updates ahead of West Ham clash | OneFootball

The treatment room has been busy over the last year or so at Manchester United and things are no different as Erik ten Hag gathers his troops ahead of the clash with West Ham United on Sunday.

The Red Devils managed to avoid a meltdown on Thursday night when they faced former manager Jose Mourinho, with Christian Eriksen's strike helping them secure a 1-1 draw and their third point in the Europa League so far this season.

It was their fifth draw in seven games, with a lack of coolness in the final third costing them frequently during 2024/25. However, they are unbeaten since a shocking 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and hopes are high for the upcoming weekend tussle against West Ham.

There'll be a fair few players missing, though. Here are the United players at risk of missing Sunday's away day in the capital.

It was a pretty cruel start to Leny Yoro's United career. The teenager has looked sharp in a couple of pre-season games before he was struck by a foot injury which required surgery, making him unavailable since the summer.

However, the young French defender has been spotted stepping up his recovery and there is hope he could be available to Ten Hag at some point in November.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has been another notable absentee from United's starting XI so far this term. The left-back managed to get in shape for the Euro 2024 final with England but hasn't played for the Red Devils since due to a calf problem.

Ten Hag admitted earlier this month he is hopeful Shaw will be fit enough to feature after the November international break, but the Dutchman will be hesitant to ask too much of the former Southampton star too soon given his lengthy injury history.

Tyrell Malacia

Shaw's injury has been compounded by the additional absence of understudy Tyrell Malacia. The Netherlands international spent last season recovering from a knee injury, meaning he wasn't able to build upon a promising debut campaign in 2022/23.

However, a promising update has suggested the 25-year-old is now in the final steps of his recovery and could be back playing by late October, with one last game against Leicester City arriving in the Carabao Cup after the trip to West Ham before November draws in.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has not played since the goalless draw at Aston Villa when he had to be withdrawn after 45 minutes. He had just scored a late equaliser at Porto and seemed to be gathering some momentum before he was downed by a muscle problem.

Matthijs de Ligt has started both games in central defence since Maguire was sidelined, with fitness issues elsewhere seeing Lisandro Martinez move over to left-back.

Mason Mount is another player whose campaign has spluttered after a difficult debut campaign at Old Trafford.

He's started two Premier League games in 2024/25 so far but hasn't played since the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, most recently going down with a head problem. He was missing from the traveling squad to Turkey and remains a doubt for Sunday's game.

Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo has enjoyed a stratospheric rise with United and England. The teenager was barely in the first-team picture at this time last year but his recent absence from central midfield has been sorely felt by Ten Hag and his teammates.

Mainoo withdrew from the England squad but it was later confirmed he had suffered a more serious injury concern, with his return not expected until late November.

Jonny Evans

Veteran defender Jonny Evans was a surprise absentee from United training on Wednesday and the nature of his current injury blow is undetermined.

The Northern Irishman has been a valuable option for Ten Hag since returning for a second spell at the club last year and will hope to be available on Sunday.

Antony

Antony is Ten Hag's most recent injury concern. The Brazilian winger was a late substitute against Fenerbahce but ended up being stretchered off the field shortly afterwards with a concerning-looking blow.

Ten Hag later revealed United will have to wait for medical tests to be carried out before knowing how long the former Ajax star will be absent for.
