Liverpool will be without Cody Gakpo and Joe Gomez for their Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Wednesday evening. Table-toppers Liverpool, who edged past Wolves 2-1 on Sunday to maintain a seven-point cushion over Arsenal, face a challenging test against Unai Emery’s in-form side.
Gakpo, absent for the Wolves win due to a knock picked up against Everton, remains sidelined. Arne Slot confirmed the Dutch forward would not recover in time for the Villa fixture.

Slot provided an update on Gomez, who sustained a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s unexpected FA Cup exit to Plymouth: “Joe will take quite some time. He is going to be out for a number of weeks because of a hamstring injury. It’s a big blow for Joe and for us. He tries to do everything to be with the team. He works really hard to come back and then the first game when he came back after two or three minutes we saw him making a sprint and now he is out for weeks again.”
Tyler Morton remains a doubt, but Curtis Jones returns to contention after serving his one-match suspension for a red card in the Merseyside derby.#
With Gakpo unavailable, Arne Slot faces a selection decision up front. Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are the leading contenders to spearhead the attack, both eager to make their mark in a high-stakes contest.
Liverpool’s probable starting XI is expected to see Alisson in goal, with a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Andy Robertson. In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch could partner Curtis Jones, while Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Luis Diaz support the central striker.
