Liverpool are on the verge of securing a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers' promising young midfielder, Alvin Ayman.

The 16-year-old, who can also play in defence, joined Wolves from Bradford City a year ago and has already made a name for himself, featuring on the bench for Wolves’ senior team last season under Gary O’Neil.

According to journalist David Lynch, there is “excitement” at Liverpool over his potential signing. Lynch told Anfield Index: "The deal is close to being done [...] They think he’s a big talent."

Having represented England at Under-17 level, the Reds hope that Ayman could be the next on the conveyor belt of young talents heading to Anfield.

Part of the next generation of English youth

Already comparisons are being made between Ayman and Liverpool youngster Trey Nyoni, also 16, who made his first-team debut in February.

Ayman is seen as a bigger and more powerful player but would nonetheless be expected to follow a similar path to Nyoni, starting in the youth teams before potentially catching the eye of first-team coach Arne Slot.

Under Jurgen Klopp in particular, Liverpool developed a proven track record in bringing in young talent to supplement their first team.

In recent years, Liverpool have also excelled at attracting some of the UK’s brightest young prospects to Anfield. This trend started with the signing of Harvey Elliott from Fulham in 2019 and continued with the arrivals of Kaide Gordon, Bobby Clark and James McConnell.

This season, youth products Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley both made substantial contributions to the first team and are expected to have bright futures at the club or beyond.

Liverpool keen to avoid a tribunal

Now, the Reds are set to add another name to this impressive list.

"Liverpool are in talks to get that done," said Lynch, who explained that the club was trying to "agree a fee that won’t incur a tribunal being involved".

That said, the journalist believes the Reds are "pretty confident that one will get done" as they continue to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level in both the short and the long term.
