Lazio midfielder Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro is all set to return to Monza for a second experience following an agreement between the two clubs.
The 32-year-old has been on the Biancocelesti’s books since 2020, but after failing to carve himself a regular starting berth, he was sent out on loan to Empoli and Monza in the previous two campaigns. The Ivorian returned to Formello last summer, but despite being out of Marco Baroni’s plans, he couldn’t seal a move away, so he’s been on the sidelines ever since, with no room for him on the Serie A and Europa League lists.
But according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Akpa-Akpro will leave Lazio once the January transfer market opens and rejoin Monza’s ranks, as the Biancocelesti directors have reached a full accord with Adriano Galliani and Co.
The experienced midfielder will arrive to bolster the Biancorossi’s ranks, as the club currently lies in an abysmal 19th position, as they have been struggling to muster points under the tutelage of Lazio legend Alessandro Nesta.
As Di Marzio explains, Monza will sign the midfielder on loan until the end of the season. And with his contract expiring in June, this effectively brings the player’s experience at the Italian Capital side to an end once and for all. He’ll be free to join a new club come the summer.
