Luiz Felipe recently rescinded his contract with Al-Ittihad and is looking for a new home in Europe, preferably in Italy, and Napoli have emerged as a possible landing spot following Alessandro Buongiorno’s injury, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
The veteran center-back is spending time in the Peninsula waiting for a call. He’d be able to start practicing right away since he’s a free agent. He’d be the easiest and cheapest option, plus he wouldn’t need to get to know the league.
On the other hand, Napoli would need to evaluate his fitness first. Unlike other players who decided to move to Saudi Arabia, he’s not too old, as he’s 27. However, he hasn’t been playing a high levels for a year and a half. Plus, he starred in his last game back in August due to injury. A return to Real Betis could also be in the cards for him. He stayed in La Liga for a season after leaving Lazio in 2022.
The Partenopei are courting Jakub Kiwior, and their interest is reciprocated, but Arsenal gaffer Mikel Arteta isn’t budging and hasn’t greenlighted his departure. Danilo is still an option, but they’d have to convince Juventus. The same goes for Jaka Bijol, as Udinese want a big fee to sell him in January. It’s less complicated to snap up Ardian Ismajli, as he has only six months on his deal. Alessio Zerbin could be the right makeweight to persuade Empoli.
It wouldn’t be the worst idea, but the big question mark would be how long it’ll take him to be ready to play, as they need somebody stat.
