It may have taken a little over a month for him to really fit in, but Tottenham Hotspur's winter central defensive signing Kevin Danso has picked up his first injury at the club.
The 26-year old had been named in Austria's squad for their Nations League double header against Serbia, but has since pulled out - with confirmation coming from their official Twitter account, where they said: "Kevin Danso will miss the Nations League playoff against Serbia due to injury. Samson Baidoo will replace him in the squad."
Before this injury, the defender had played 618 minutes for Spurs since arriving at the beginning of February - with the 1-0 win over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month the only game he didn't play 90 minutes in - instead playing for 78 minutes that day.
Needless to say, there is a lot more pressure on Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero to be available. That was one of the big positives of signing Danso - that even though he may be third choice when the other two were available, he would still be a solid option to bring in, and that Spurs now had less of a need to rely on those two, top but injury prone defenders.
Furthermore, as we know, Radu Dragusin will miss the rest of the season, and most of 2025, with an ACL injury. Fortunately, Ben Davies is back from his latest injury, and has been called up to Wales' squad for World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and North Macedonia. Hopefully he can get some sharpness into his legs during the break, and above all avoid another injury.
Fortunately, Ange has said that Danso - and Richarlison - could return [immediately] after the international break, which is big. Although a lot of fans don't like the break, it is hard to argue that is coming at a convenient time for Spurs. That said, if they get knocked out on Thursday, it won't feel like a relief that the injured players are back - and fans will just be desperate for the season to end as soon as possible.
Ah well. A shame, though perhaps not catastrophic. Six weeks to get him injured, impressive even for Spurs' standards. Let's hope that Ange is right and they can be at his disposal when club football returns at the end of the month,
