It was confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Sheffield United have secured the signature of versatile midfielder Jamie Shackleton. The 24-year-old has penned a three-year deal with the Blades after turning down a contract extension from Leeds United earlier this summer.

Shackleton has featured over 80 times in the Championship for Leeds United and Millwall. He has also racked up 27 Premier League appearances. Additionally he has split the majority of his games playing in central midfield and right-back, whilst even making two appearances at left-back.

The 24-year-old is a high energy utility type of player and could be a key piece to the squad depth when the busy fixture periods start to take shape. Also, as touched on in an analysis piece of United’s first signing: he is a brilliant carrier of the football and he prefers to progress the ball via a carry rather than a pass, which could be very handy if United need a player to drive the team forward to protect the lead in the final stages of games.

Speaking for the first time as a Blade, Shackleton commented, via SUTV:

“I’m buzzing to be here and having missed the first couple of days of pre-season, I just want to get out there with the rest of the lads. The manager has told me a lot, what he expects from me, and how he sees a lot in me that he wants at Sheffield United, so hopefully it is going to be a good match.

“I’ve played plenty of games in the Championship and Leeds and on-loan at Millwall, both sets of those fans demand a lot from you and I’m sure that will be no different here.

“The 100 per cent is a given where I’ve played and I’m that type of player, I put everything in and leave everything on the pitch. I’ve got a few links to the Blades too and they’ve got nothing but positive words to say about the club.”
