Inter did not quite get their season off to the start they wanted. They drew 2-2 in Genoa after some frustrating late drama.

But ever since then, the Nerazzurri have picked up right where they left off last season.

In Inter’s second match of the season, they dispatched Lecce 2-0 without ever seeming to get out of second gear.

Then, in the Nerazzurri’s final league match going into the international break, they thrashed Atalanta 4-0.

Two clean sheets in a row showed that Inter did not take long to find their defensive solidity.

And the fluid attacking display against Atalanta was a familiar sight from Inter’s dominant run to the title last season.

Inter Dominate Serie A With “Inzaghi-Ball” – But Champions League The Next Test

There are clear hallmarks of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s style of play that have already been evident in the team’s first few Serie A matches.

The 3-5-2 shape is certainly familiar. And the way that the coach has developed it has followed from the trajectory of last season.

The wide defenders in the back three are now more involved in attack and midfield than ever.

And even the central defender has frequently marauded forward, in the form of Francesco Acerbi.

Most notable of all has been the positioning of Federico Dimarco.

On paper, the Italian international is certainly lining up as a wingback on the left flank.

But the reality is often quite different.

Dimarco has taken up positions everywhere from holding midfield to almost as a second striker as he’s looked to influence play from central areas.

Against Lecce and particularly Atalanta, Inter found their opposition without any answers.

But the Champions League could prove a different story.

Inter face Manchester City away in their very first European match of the season. On paper that will be their toughest match of the entire competition.

But things won’t get much easier from there.

Teams like Arsenal, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, and Monaco will certainly throw up new challenges for Inter.

Inzaghi has certainly found the formula in the Italian top flight. Now it’s up to the rest of the continent to try and stop him.
