The Angolan striker discusses his future after a mixed spell at Lens and confirms his interest in France
"If a Ligue 1 club wants me, I won't say no," says Mbala N’Zola
M'Bala Nzola was won over by the French top flight during his one-season loan at RC Lens. In an interview with FootMercato, the Angolan striker from ACF Fiorentina made it clear that he is interested in taking on a new challenge in Ligue 1. He is currently considering several opportunities with European clubs.
Mbala N'Zola reflects on his time in northern France with mixed feelings. The Angolan international admits that his adventure with Lens did not end as he had hoped, despite a promising start. He takes responsibility for the difficulties encountered and says he learned a lot from the experience, particularly in terms of discipline and humility.
"My season at Lens started well, even if, of course, it’s not how I wanted my adventure with the club to end. But I think that this experience at a big, very popular French club taught me a lot, especially when it comes to discipline, humility, and managing my ego. Throughout my time in the North, I tried to pay even more attention to details, punctuality, and discipline both on and off the pitch. As I often say, there’s no age limit for learning, so I think I’ve learned a lot in these areas and I’ve put things in place to be flawless in this regard in the future," he said.
After 23 matches, 7 goals, and one assist, the 28-year-old left the Sang et Or squad. Not retained, he returned to AFC Fiorentina in Italy. However, the Angolan admits he was captivated by France's top division and is open to repeating the experience.
"Having tasted Ligue 1, honestly yes, it’s a league that interests me. If there’s a Ligue 1 club that wants me and the project is appealing, honestly, I won’t say no," declared M'Bala Nzola.
Now back in Italy, it remains to be seen whether the Angolan will stay at Fiorentina. Several clubs have already shown interest in his services. A club from the Gulf has made a concrete offer, while advanced talks are underway with a Serie A side.
"A club from the Gulf has made a concrete offer. I’m also in talks with several Serie A clubs, including one strong team with whom discussions are well advanced. I’m staying patient and will consider all opportunities to make the right choice. I also know that Spanish clubs have recently made inquiries about me, as my profile is very appealing. I believe I can bring my qualities to a number of teams, so I’m continuing to work hard while waiting for the right opportunity to come along," concluded M'Bala Nzola.
