The Owls are looking at a number of players who could improve their squad, within their limited budget.
Henrik Pedersen has said that Sheffield Wednesday have a number of transfer options "on the table" as he looks to bulk out the squad.
The lifting of the EFL embargoes that were placed on Wednesday, for non-payment of players and fees to other clubs, should make the Dane's job much easier. Now, they are being linked with a host of players from across the country; mainly players that are near the start or the end of their careers.
Manchester United youth graduate duo Harry Amass and Toby Collyer were reported by The Star to be players of interest, but, according to The Athletic, they are set to lose out on the latter to West Bromwich Albion.
Another Greater Manchester-based youngster, Jaden Heskey, the son of former England centre-forward Emile Heskey, is another option that the club are said to be interested in.
At the other end of the spectrum, Wednesday are closing in on the signing of former Leeds United captain Liam Cooper, per The Star. He should be able to help out a defence that has already conceded five goals in its first two games of the new campaign.
The manager certainly appeared confident, after Wednesday night's win over Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup, that he will have some new faces to work with sooner than later. "I can say that we are working very hard on this and I still hope (so)," Pedersen told The Star on the potential for deals to be done this week.
He added that he is not certain that players of Cooper's experience and level will be an option for Wednesday because of the finances, but that hasn't stopped them from looking at people of that profile.
"I have not been given any assurance that we can, but we do everything we can to make a great project at Sheffield Wednesday.
"There is interest from many players, with the money we can pay right now and we hope it can also help that we are first of all a fantastic club and an interesting place where you can make your next step as a footballer and as a human. We hope we can get some interesting players for us.
"At the moment there are a lot of young players on the table, and there is also a lot of very experienced players on the table. We are working very, very hard every day to find players and to get the right players. I really hope that soon we will have something."
In a period that has been ruined by constant negative stories and worry, Wednesday's team has done well given the cards that they were dealt.
Despite a limited pre-season, they pushed Leicester City, who had not long been relegated from the Premier League, hard on the opening day, and upset a Bolton side that had made a strong start to the season.
They're making themselves as appealing a team as possible by showing great character, grit and determination, despite the poor circumstances that they are surrounded by. And that's without mentioning the supporters and how receptive they have been to their team's efforts.
