Owls fans have understandably been left shocked at the offer West Ham and Rangers have tabled for their star shot stopper.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been left shocked at news that West Ham United and Rangers both tabled offers of £1m+ for their star goalkeeper, Pierce Charles.

Despite all the well-documented challenges facing Sheffield Wednesday at this present moment, on the pitch, Henrik Pedersen's Owls have made a highly encouraging start to the 25/26 season.

Pedersen's side were hugely unfortunate not to take anything from their opening day trip to Leicester City, before defeating Bolton Wanderers on penalties in the League Cup in midweek, in what was an action-packed affair that ended 3-3 at the full-time whistle.

The club have also been handed a transfer lifeline too, after their EFL embargoes were lifted earlier this month, meaning they can and are exploring free agent and loan deals.

Given their off-the-field problems, which includes major financial issues, Wednesday have had their hands tied when it comes to retaining some of their star players.

As a result, Djeidi Gassama, Anthony Musaba, Josh Windass, Michael Ihiekwe and Akin Famewo are just some of the key first-team players that have left Hillsborough so far this summer.

However, one of the brightest jewels in their crown still remains in place, for now at least, and that's goalkeeper Pierce Charles.

The 20-year-old Northern Ireland international is quickly building a reputation for himself as one of the finest young talents in English football outside of the Premier League, and looks to have all the makings of becoming a top shot stopper in the years to come.

However, as a result of the aforementioned financial problems facing the club this summer, with takeover talks yet to see a deal concluded, the youngster is perhaps their biggest remaining saleable asset left.

It's been reported by Alan Nixon in recent days that Wednesday want around £8m if the Northern Irishman is to be going anywhere before the 1 September deadline, which is crucial context for today's latest revelation surrounding the Owls keeper.

Daily Telegraph football reporter Mike McGrath revealed on Thursday via X that both West Ham United and Scottish giants Rangers have both made bids of £1m+ for Charles, but any potential deal is now said to be off as neither of those interested parties have received a response from Wednesday.

Understandably so, many Sheffield Wednesday supporters have taken to the replies of McGrath's post to laugh off these offers from West Ham and Rangers for Charles.

"£1million. Laughable! Lads worth over 10. However under the current owner, he’ll prob sell for £10," one fan wrote.

"It must be a typo — missed off another 1," another said.

"£1m they really are tryna take everything for nothing," one Wednesday fan said.

"I think I would be heartbroken if he's gone, he's the best academy prospect I can remember and I've been going since 1991," were the words of another.

One Wednesday supporter cited James Trafford's recent sale to Man City when discussing how the Owls should handles Charles' future, saying: "His fee is going up by £1mill every time he plays. (James) Trafford went for £25m-plus. Northern Ireland's No1 and with a season under his belt would be worth similar if not more."

Sheffield Wednesday will go in search of their first league win of the season this weekend, when they welcome Stoke City to Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.
