Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel was not shy in revealing his disappointment with the display put forth by one particular member of his defensive ranks during the club’s meeting with Real Madrid.

Bayern, of course, marked their return to action on the continent on Tuesday night.

In the first leg of the Champions League semi-final tie between the clubs, the Bundesliga heavyweights welcomed the aforementioned Real Madrid to the Allianz Arena, for a highly-anticipated clash.

When all was said and done, the hosts played their part in a thrilling affair, ultimately culminating in a 2-2 stalemate.

Whilst several of Bayern’s star performers shone bright on the night, however, one who struggled came in the form of Kim Min-jae.

The South Korean was dragged out of position before being rolled by Vinícius Jr. en route to Real’s opener, before Kim hauled down Rodrygo to afford the Spanish giants a late penalty, too.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle, the subject of the woes endured by his defensive star on Tuesday was in turn put to boss Thomas Tuchel.

And the German tactician did not hesitate in making his frustrations with Kim clear:

“He was too ‘greedy’ twice,” Tuchel began. “He made the first move too early against Vinícius in the first goal and got caught by Toni Kroos’ pass. He speculated and was too aggressive. In the second goal, unfortunately it was another mistake. We were 5 against 2, we had the numbers. There was no need to defend that aggressively against Rodrygo. The moment Eric was about to help, he [Kim] brought him [Rodrygo] down. Unfortunately with their quality, these mistakes get punished. But, well, it happens. We have to move on.”
