Germany Starting XI Player Ratings

GK: Marc-André ter Stegen – 8/10Made a smart save to deny Rayan Cherki in the 20th minute and followed it up with a solid stop from Loïc Badé’s header. Got a hand to Kylian Mbappé’s powerful strike just before half-time but couldn’t keep it out. Produced a brilliant save in the 70th minute to deny Marcus Thuram and later stretched full-length to keep out another effort from Mbappé. A composed and reliable presence despite conceding once.

RB: Joshua Kimmich – 5/10Reliable as ever with his passing, but not as influential as he usually is for Germany. Drifted inside at times to get more involved in possession. Didn’t look good for France’s opener—first caught out by a ball over the top, then unable to keep pace with Mbappé. Made a few strong recovery runs, but his advanced positioning was exploited multiple times on the counter.

CB: Jonathan Tah – 4/10Solid on the ball in the first half and used his physicality well. Played some good long passes forward, including one to Adeyemi that the forward failed to control. However, once again showed his lack of pace at times, as also seen against Portugal. Let his emotions get the better of him and picked up a yellow card after a clash with Lucas Hernandez in the 60th minute.

CB: Robin Koch – 3/10Got away with an early lapse in the 17th minute when he failed to spot Randal Kolo Muani sneaking in behind him—France appealed for a penalty, but the referee waved it away. Stayed composed for much of the match and defended solidly against France’s quick and technical attackers. However, his performance was ultimately marred by a costly late error that led directly to France’s second goal.

LB: David Raum – 4/10Struggled defensively and was often overrun down his flank, frequently caught too high up the pitch. Allowed Rayan Cherki a shot through his legs in the 21st minute and picked up a yellow for bringing down Randal Kolo Muani shortly after. Did deliver a couple of quality crosses - most notably in the 43rd minute when he picked out Nick Woltemade - but overall had a tough game.

DM: Leon Goretzka – 5/10A quiet game from the Bayern midfielder. Worked hard off the ball and completed 90% of his passes, but failed to make a real impact. Kept things tidy without ever standing out, and was taken off just after the hour mark.

DM: Pascal Gross – 6/10Helped Germany maintain possession, completing 60 of 65 passes (92%) and showing composure in midfield. His passing was sharp throughout, and a standout moment came when he slipped a ball through to Nick Woltemade behind the French defence - though the chance wasn’t taken. Quieter in the second half and was eventually subbed off.

CAM: Florian Wirtz – 5/10Didn’t always succeed in his one-on-one situations but combined well with teammates in the first half and nearly gave Germany the lead with shot that hit the post in the 36th minute. However, he wasn’t able to maintain his influence after the break and gradually disappeared from the game.

RW: Nick Woltemade – 6/10Got into dangerous positions and used his physicality well to trouble the French defence, making smart runs into the box and linking up effectively with teammates. However, he lacked the clinical edge in front of goal - missing a golden early chance by firing straight at Maignan, and later seeing a clever effort denied again by the French goalkeeper shortly before France took the lead. Ultimately replaced at half-time by Stuttgart teammate Deniz Undav.

LW: Karim Adeyemi – 7/10Caused France plenty of problems with his pace and direct running, often getting in behind the defence. Drew several fouls and forced Lucas Digne into an early yellow. Cut inside well in the 6th minute and forced a good save from Maignan. Thought he had won a penalty in the 31st minute, but was instead booked for diving after a VAR check. Struggled at times with his first touch and had a few careless giveaways that broke up promising moves. Will ultimately be disappointed not to have found the net and looked tired before being subbed off late on.

ST: Niclas Füllkrug – 4/10Played a smart early pass to set up Woltemade and threatened with a sliding effort in the 5th minute. Thought he’d made a decisive contribution when he dispossessed Adrien Rabiot in the build-up to Undav’s disallowed goal, but was penalised for a foul. Lost out to Loïc Badé in a duel in the 65th minute and later ran into Undav’s path, disrupting the striker’s chance. A difficult outing for the West Ham striker, who lacked sharpness when it mattered most.

Germany's Man of the Match: Marc-André ter Stegen

Just like against Portugal, the FC Barcelona goalkeeper produced some stunning saves, especially in the second half, keeping Germany in the game for as long as possible. Could do nothing to prevent France’s goals.
