On the day that Milan will celebrate their 125th anniversary at San Siro during the match against Genoa, good news has arrived regarding two key renewals.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), the contract extensions of Mike Maignan and Tijjani Reijnders are ‘practically done’. After Matteo Gabbia renewed until 2029 the same fate could soon befall the Rossoneri goalkeeper and midfielder.
An agreement between the parties is in place and only the last step is missing: putting everything in writing and signing the contract. Given the value that the players have, from a qualitative but also a leadership point of view, it would be a very positive step.
Just like Gabbia, the two extensions of the Frenchman and the Dutchman are also expected to run until 2029. For the former Lille man the situation was a little more urgent, since the current deadline was set for 2026.
Maignan will go from €3.2m net per season to €5m, plus bonuses. Reijnders meanwhile should double his salary, going from €1.7m to €3.5m, something not to be underestimated considering that the player arrived only a year and a half ago.
This means two things: Milan believe in the value of the player, and above all they want to protect themselves from possible bids from abroad in the summer. At the moment Reijnders – as well as Maignan – is very happy at Milan.
