AC Milan have been in a difficult position for most, if not all, of this Serie A season, and despite arriving in the middle of it all, the troubles have now extended to the new head coach.
At present, Milan are a team that are seemingly always self-imploding. For several reasons, the Rossoneri have been uninspired this season, which has left them in a perilous position where the future looks a real concern.
The elimination from the Champions League served as the latest example of something going wrong, and now everything else is getting deeper scrutiny. We have seen in recent days how Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez’s futures are being questioned, and these are also now extending to the head coach.
Of course, Conceicao’s security was wavering beforehand, but the loss against Feyenoord sparked ideas, and the failure to overturn the result has made them more prominent.
As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) wrote this morning, the head coach is ‘walking on a tightrope’, a situation unimaginable for a coach who has not been the core problem this season.
For him to keep his job in Milano, his task is somewhat simple (at least on paper), recover the Serie A position, and get the Diavolo into the Champions League next season – the Coppa Italia would ‘enrich’ the trophy cabinet, with no other rewards.
However, if the side does not reach the top four, it will not be a definitive end. Should Conceicao’s side display a Milan that is desired by the fans and management, there is a chance that he will keep his position, even if the table positioning is not ideal.
