Milan have put their faith in coach Paulo Fonseca, and have made it clear that the next three matches against Venezia, Liverpool and Inter over the coming week are not do-or-die for the Portuguese tactician according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Rossoneri have endured a shaky start to the Serie A season and are still on the lookout for their first league victory of the campaign following 2-2 draws against Torino and Lazio and the 2-1 loss to Parma in between.

Adding to the tension in San Siro, there was also a brief on-field fall-out between Fonseca and two of his star players in Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez midway through the second half against Lazio before the international break.

Milan give Fonseca vote of confidence

Only once in the last 65 years have Milan gone the first four matches of the season without a win, but the latest reports claim that Fonseca’s job will not be under threat if he does not pick up three points against Venezia on Saturday.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri feel that Fonseca has still not had enough time to prove himself. The club feel it is too early in the season, and too early in Fonseca’s Milan career to make such a big call over his long-term future.

Additionally, they feel that Liverpool and Inter are not fair tests for the coach and his relatively new-look side, given the strength of the opposition.

RedBird CEO Gerry Cardinale will be in the ground to oversee his team’s performance on Saturday, while supporters have arranged to meet en masse before the game to give the team an extra loud cheer on their way into the stadium.

Kick-off in Milan-Venezia is scheduled for 19.45 BST.
