Premier League champions Manchester City are set to defeat a number of their English top-flight rivals to the signing of an up and coming Coventry City prospect.

Etihad Stadium bosses have been busy this summer ensuring the future progression of their academy ranks by signing some of the most highly-rated prospects across both the English game and in various continents.

Players recruited by Manchester City have ranged from multi-million agreements to contractual deals based on age ahead of talents plotting their next phase of development after turning 16 and 17 years of age.

One notable deal completed by bosses was for the future services of Philadelphia Union’s Cavan Sullivan, recruited in a big-money move that will see the USA youth international make the move to the European giants upon turning 18, with the player currently aged just 14.

But the latest prospect brought into the illustrious Manchester City academy system comes from much closer to home, with the latest details emerging from a reputable source within the transfer window.

According to the information of transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are currently working on their newest signing for their esteemed Academy system as they close in on the signing of Coventry City talent Marlow Barrett.

It is further revealed that Manchester City youth recruitment bosses have also beaten ‘several’ top clubs from within the Premier League to the signing of the defensive prospect, who is now set to join the Etihad’s academy system.

It remains unknown as to which age group Barrett would be allocated to upon joining Manchester City, with all of the City Football Academy’s squads battling on multiple fronts in their quest to become the consistent leading academy in the country.

City have witnessed enormous success financially through their academy system alone, but also through the success of players developing right through to Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

Rico Lewis is the latest of Manchester City’s academy graduates to secure himself a consistent place in Pep Guardiola’s senior squad, operating in a multitude of positions ranging from right-back to attacking midfield under the Catalan boss.
