Former Benfica and Portugal goalkeeper Celton Biai coming of age at FC Dordrecht | OneFootball

FC Dordrecht face Willem II tomorrow evening with the chance of a spot in the play-off final at stake. Over two legs, the side will battle it out for the chance to play either FC Den Bosch or Telstar for a place in the Eredivisie. While Willem II may be slight favourites, FC Dordrecht have a goalkeeper who could make a difference. Celton Biai was the star as the side overcame De Graafschap in the first round of the play-offs. He kept two clean sheets, saving a crucial penalty in the second-leg to help the side win 2-0 on aggregate.

Biai joined the side a year ago, leaving Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes to move to the Netherlands. Prior to joining Vitoria, Biai had been part of the Benfica set up and a regular at youth level for Portugal. He has since switched his allegiances to Guinea Bissau and the 24-year-old is going the right way to earning a first cap. In 18 appearances this season for the side he has kept an impressive eight clean sheets. Biai made a number of crucial saves in the second leg against De Graafschap and the side will be confident in him producing the same level of performance against Willem II.

The data for the goalkeeper is also impressive. Using FotMob’s player traits data, we see that he is making more saves than 93% of goalkeepers in the Dutch second tier and has kept more clean sheets than 91% of his fellow shot stopers. Biai is under contract until 2026 and the club have an option for an extra season. Should they miss out on promotion this year, there will certainly be sides interested in signing the talented goalkeeper after what he has shown so far this season.
