La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport claim Roberto De Zerbi’s release clause prevents the Rossoneri from hiring the Italian tactician, while Paulo Fonseca remains high on the Serie A giants’ agenda.

Milan directors are interested in hiring De Zerbi to replace Stefano Pioli, but a release clause in the Italian tactician’s contract with Brighton makes it difficult for the Serie A giants to bring their academy product back to the club.

Both Tuttosport and Gazzetta  – on page 21 – claim on Friday that the Rossoneri are unwilling to pay a €15m clause and would only consider the former midfielder if they find an alternative way to match the Premier League club’s demand.

Both papers confirm that Fonseca is probably the leading candidate for the role at this stage, but Milan directors haven’t yet made a final decision. After dropping a disappointed Julen Lopetegui, they will carefully assess every candidate in May.

Tuttosport claims Fonseca is appreciated by Milan directors because of his Serie A experience at Roma and his ability to develop young talents. Mark van Bommel, a former Milan midfielder, will leave his current club, Royal Antwerp, at the end of the season and is another solid option for the Diavoli.

Tuttosport mentions Porto coach Sergio Conceiçao as well but adds that Milan are also trying to understand whether they can still enter the Thiago Motta race or if Juventus is too far ahead.
