According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have made new contacts with Lille manager Paulo Fonseca on Friday. The interest is mutual with the Portuguese manager eager to become the new manager of the Rossoneri with Stefano Pioli set to depart the Serie A club.
Fonseca is in high demand this summer with his future at the Stade Pierre Mauroy never more uncertain. Milan are not the only club to have shown an interest in the former Roma manager. Marseille have also shown a strong interest in Fonseca and is the leading candidate to replace the retiring Jean-Louis Gasset at the end of the season.
The Milanese club’s strong interest in the former Shakhtar coach comes as a blow to OM as the interest is reciprocated. Therefore, diminishing the chances of seeing Fonseca coaching on the touchlines in Ligue 1 next season. The Lille manager is attracted by the outlined project at Milan and is excited by the challenge of managing in Italy.
