Lautaro Martinez will have his fitness evaluated day by day ahead of Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Atalanta on Friday.

This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that the 27-year-old showed improvements in his condition in training today, but that he is still a question mark for Friday.

Inter captain Martinez was not part of the squad for Saturday’s Serie A win over Lecce.

The Argentine had been in the lineup for the season opener against Genoa the previous weekend.

However, Martinez had picked up a muscle problem over the week. The problem was revealed to be an adductor elongation.

Martinez has been racing to get back to fitness following a late return to training.

The captain was the last Inter player to join up with the preseason training camp. This was because he had won the Copa America with Argentina, and was in action until mid-July.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi did not risk Martinez against Lecce. The Argentine was not even on the bench for that match, Inter’s first at the San Siro this season.

However, it has been a big question mark as to whether or not the Inter captain could recover for Inter’s next match.

The Nerazzurri host Atalanta in their third Serie A match of the season. That will be their last match before the first international break of the campaign.

Considering that match is just six days after the win over Lecce, the timeline is tight.

FCIN report that Martinez worked on an individual recovery program in training today.

The outlet report that there are clear improvements for the 27-year-old. He is quickly returning to fitness.

But that is not guarantee that Martinez will be ready for the match against Atalanta on Friday.

Therefore, there will be further evaluations of the Inter captain’s recovery over the next couple days that should make things clearer regarding his availability.

Otherwise, Martinez should be back for Inter’s first match after the international break against Monza.
