Lewis Koumas has signed for Birmingham City on loan from Liverpool, and Don Goodman has given his verdict on the signing.

Sky Sports pundit and EFL expert Don Goodman is cautious about how much game time Lewis Koumas will receive at Birmingham City given the Blues' array of attacking talent, but has lauded the potential of the Liverpool loanee.

Lewis Koumas has spent his entire career at Liverpool, progressing through the youth ranks before heading out on his first loan move to the Championship last season with Stoke City.

Koumas' start to life in the Potteries began brightly, scoring on his full debut for the club in a 2-1 home defeat to West Brom, the side which his father Jason had made over 100 appearances for during his career.

However, as the season went on, Koumas' form began to waver, with multiple managerial changes at the bet365 Stadium not helping his case.

A fully-fledged Welsh international at just 19, Koumas made 49 appearances for the Potters across all competitions during his one season with the club, scoring six goals and assisting a further three as the Potters narrowly avoided relegation.

His performances alerted Chris Davies' Birmingham side, who have signed Koumas this summer ahead of their first back in the Championship since their record-breaking season in League One.

Don Goodman gives his verdict on Lewis Koumas' loan move to Birmingham City from Liverpool

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky pundit Don Goodman has provided his take on Birmingham's signing of Koumas, and whether he thinks he will get the necessary game time to progress.

"Well, basically, in Lewis Koumas, what Birmingham City are signing is a player with lots and lots of potential," said Goodman.

"You'd have said the same last season when Stoke City signed him, and he started off last season like a house on fire and looked a real talent.

"But, as the season wore on slowly, as it did in terms of Stoke City, his performance levels just petered away.

"So you hope that a very vibrant, a very intense, a very front-foot Birmingham City team can get the best out of him.

"I'm not sure how much game time he's going to get. We will have to wait and see on that, as they do have quality in those areas."

Birmingham have started the season off brightly, winning two of their opening three Championship games, 2-1 away to Blackburn Rovers and 1-0 at home to Oxford United, and it would have been three wins if it wasn't for Ipswich Town's controversial late penalty converted by George Hirst in the opening fixture, which denied them all three points.

The Welsh international made his debut for the Blues in Tuesday's 1-0 home defeat to Port Vale in the League Cup, playing the full ninety minutes but struggling to make an impact.

He will have to compete with the likes of Demarai Gray, Kyogo Furuhashi, Jay Stansfield and Keshi Anderson in the Blues attack, with Marvin Ducksch and Lyndon Dykes also providing competition in the strikers department.

Following a record-breaking campaign last season, in which they amassed 111 points in League One, Birmingham will be hoping to continue this positive momentum throughout the season and thrust themselves among the promotion chasers.

It's unclear as to how much game time Koumas will receive at St Andrews, though manager Davies will be hoping that the Welshman can provide the spark in attack when called upon to fire them up the table.

You also get the impression that Koumas, while by no means a guaranteed starter in the Second City, could still enjoy an impactful season, particularly from the bench with his electric speed, trickery and willingness to lead transitions and drive at opposition defenders, which could give Blues a new dimension late on in games when chasing a goal against low defensive blocks.
