Jack Harrison could potentially seal a permanent move to Merseyside in the future, despite the fact only a loan return is on the cards at this point.

Highlights

  1. Everton aims to sign Jack Harrison next summer on a loan deal, potentially leading to a permanent move afterwards.
  2. Leeds United may have to sell players to balance finances, generating income from departed loan players.
  3. Harrison's contract situation is advantageous for Leeds as he leaves on loan, protecting against losing him for free.

Premier League club Everton have told Leeds United that they hope to be in a position to recruit Jack Harrison next summer if a takeover deal materialises, according to The Boot Room.

The Toffees are set to recruit the player on another loan deal, having taken the winger on a temporary agreement during the 2023/24 campaign.

Harrison was one of many first-teamers to leave Elland Road on loan last summer, which wasn't ideal for the Whites who would have either been keen to keep hold of these players or sell them for transfer fees.

This is something they were unable to do and ahead of this summer, the West Yorkshire side may have been keen to sell the player during this window to balance the books.

Having lost the play-off final against Southampton, some tough decisions on potential player sales may need to be made, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Archie Gray all likely to be of interest to clubs in the coming months.

They could also generate money from selling some of those who made loan exits last summer, including Max Wober, who is currently representing Austria at Euro 2024.

Not only could these sales allow the Whites to continue abiding by financial rules, but it may also allow them to increase manager Daniel Farke's budget for the summer transfer window.

If key players depart, Farke will need a decent amount of money to spend on replacements to give the club the best chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

According to The Athletic, the Toffees will pay Harrison's wages in full when they take him on another season-long loan deal, which could ease pressure on the club's finances with the player unlikely to be on a modest salary.

However, the same report has revealed that Sean Dyche's side won't pay a loan fee to take him back to Goodison Park.

Harrison is keen to return to his former club and the fact this move is seemingly set to happen is a boost for him.

The Boot Room have even reported that the Toffees are weighing up the possibility of securing a permanent deal for the winger next summer, with the likelihood of a longer-term agreement potentially set to be dictated by a potential takeover.

Jack Harrison's contract situation could work in Leeds United's favour

The fact Harrison is leaving on loan again isn't ideal for the Whites, who could have generated a fairly big fee for him this summer.

In their quest to balance the books, Harrison could have been sold instead of a vital first-teamer like Summerville, who was crucial during the 2023/24 campaign.

However, the former's contract could work in their favour.

Harrison's contract at Elland Road doesn't expire until 2028 and with this in mind, they aren't at risk of losing him for free anytime soon.

That is a relief for a club that may want to have him as part of their first team in the future, if they aren't keen on offloading him permanently.
