Enzo Maresca has praised the “fluidity” of Chelsea’s attack, but also emphasised the need for balance after the win against West Ham on Friday night.

Chelsea recorded their first win of the season thanks to an emphatic 5-1 win against the Hammers, despite losing Cole Palmer in the warm-up and going a goal down early on.

Estevao stepped in for his first Premier League start, whilst Tosin Adarabioyo, Malo Gusto and Liam Delap were all handed their first starts of the season.

Enzo Maresca speaks on Chelsea’s attack

Despite a shaky start and a few issues defensively early on, Chelsea rallied really well, and some of the attacking play was scintillating, with Maresca starting Joao Pedro and Delap together for the first time.

The Blues have revamped their attack this summer and have signed Delap, Pedro and Jamie Gittens, whilst Estevao has also arrived after a deal was agreed last summer.

Estevao was named Man of the Match, whilst Pedro impressed and scored his first Premier League goal for the Blues.

Pedro Neto was brilliant on the left hand side, and Chelsea have got serious attacking threat who can cause any defence problems.

Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho could be added to the mix before the end of the window, and Maresca has spoken about the attack.

“When we attack in play generally, that must have really excited you, the fluidity,” he told his post match press conference.

“Yes, but you need balance, you need Caicedo, you need Enzo Fernandez, you need Trev, Tosin, Cucu, Malo.

“So the attacking players, they are important, but at the same time, also the defensive players.”

Chelsea still working on Simons and Garnacho deals

Whilst Chelsea’s attacking signings have settled in well, the Blues are still working on deals for both Garnacho and Simons.

Simons started for Leipzig on Friday in their Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munich, in what could be his last game for the club, and a deal is expected to be finalised once Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have left.

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Garnacho, and likes Simons they are waiting on outgoings, whilst they also need to agree a fee with Manchester United.
