Tottenham Hotspur have approached RB Leipzig to discuss a deal to sign Xavi Simons, though the midfielder’s priority remains a move to Chelsea.
Spurs are keen to add creativity to their side in the absence of the injured James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. The North Londoners had held talks with Eberechi Eze, but the Crystal Palace midfielder has instead decided to join Arsenal.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Spurs have approached Leipzig over Simons, who is valued at around £60m and open to leaving the German side. However, Thomas Frank’s side face a difficult task to lure the Dutch midfielder, who is keen to sign for Chelsea.
A move to Stamford Bridge has been delayed as Chelsea look to offload players, including Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. The prospect of former Leipzig forward Nkunku returning to the Bundesliga side in a separate deal has been discussed.
Simons started as Leipzig opened their Bundesliga campaign with a 6-0 defeat at Bayern Munich on Friday night. Ahead of the game, RB Leipzig director Marcel Schafer discussed the midfielder’s future.
“Xavi Simons is still with us. But the market is still open, you never know what might happen. Xavi has expressed his ambitions to us,” he said to Sky Sports Germany.
