Djed Spence has signed a new contract at Tottenham.
The Englishman’s new deal is his second in the space of less than a year, after he signed a new four-year contract in October.
Now, Spurs have moved to tie Spence down to another new deal as they get their squad in order for a first full season under new manager Thomas Frank.
Spence, chiefly a right-back, played the full match as a left wing-back as Tottenham lost the UEFA Super Cup final to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties after a 2-2 draw in Udine on Wednesday night.
The 25-year-old was an important player under Ange Postecoglou’s guidance last season, particularly when filling in at left-back once Destiny Udogie picked up a serious injury.
London-born Spence signed for Spurs from Middlesborough in July 2022, but it took loan spells at Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa before he was brought into the first-team fold consistently at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Last season, he started 19 games in all competitions for Spurs.
While on loan from Middlesborough at Nottingham Forest in the 2021-22 season, he played a major role in Forest’s return to the Premier League after a 20-year hiatus.
