With Chelsea in full “sale” mode, things are heating up pretty fast in a number of deals.
None have more movement in the last few days than those for Renato Veiga.
Florian Plettenberg dropped an exclusive over the weekend that Atletico Madrid were joining Bayern Munich and Juventus on the list of teams interested, and that Chelsea wanted €30m to €35m.
Fabrizio Romano, not to be outdone, followed up with the claim that Chelsea wanted €40m, and that there were Premier League teams interested too.
Renato Veiga closing in on €40m move to Atletico Madrid according to Fabrizio Romano.
Now the Italian insider has added more detail on Atletico’s bid. He said last night that the Spanish giants have now made “direct contact” with Chelsea over the versatile defender, a major step forward compared to the vague interest we hear about from Bayern and Juve.
Not only have Diego Simeone’s team made the first move, Romano also claims to know that Veiga himself is keen on making the switch. He insists that Chelsea still want €40m, and that Atleti are “prepared to advance in negotiations,” showing that they are at least considering that price within the real of possibility.
The Blues are in a strong position here, with the defender on a long contract and a low wage.
Veiga has been for sale for a while, but there’s not been much movement yet. With all that in place and preseasons across Europe getting into gear, we reckon this could happen pretty quickly now. Atletico will batter down the initial fee but agree to add ons and bonuses, Veiga gets his move and Chelsea get a really big profit on what they paid a year ago to sign a new left back.
Everyone’s happy.
