Reports suggest that Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday are close to an agreement that will see the German depart the club.

Sheffield Wednesday have been enduring an uncertain time throughout this summer and now, with just a couple of weeks before the start of the campaign, it appears as though manager Danny Rohl is set to depart the club.

The Owls are experiencing yet another summer of seeming crisis under the ownership of Dejphon Chansiri, with Rohl's future having been at the centre of the turmoil and questions.

Wages being delayed prompted a couple of players, Michael Smith and Josh Windass, to exercise options to terminate their contracts, whilst there have also been restrictions placed upon the club as punishments.

The club are unable to pay any transfer fees for players until the January transfer window of 2027, and supporters will be fearing what the 2025/26 Championship season has in store for them.

On top of that, they are now less than two weeks away from their opening game of the season, and it appears as though they will be heading into the final two weeks of pre-season preparation without Rohl.

According to Rob Staton of BBC Sheffield, a settlement agreement is now close to see Danny Rohl depart Sheffield Wednesday as the club’s manager.

The uncertainty at the club saw Rohl return to pre-season training late before holding supposedly ‘clear the air’ talks with Wednesday’s players upon his return.

However, it has now been reported that the club are close to confirming his departure, with what appears to be a settlement that will see him leave Hillsborough via a mutual agreement.

Rohl's departure had seemed inevitable before the end of last season and then the first part of this summer saw him touted for jobs and not turn up for the start of pre-season training with Wednesday.

Now, however, it appears as though Chansiri and the club have finally reached an agreement with the 36-year-old German for him to depart, with no other current vacancies in the Championship for him to switch to.

In terms of who replaces Rohl, Alan Biggs suggests that a succession plan is in place for Henrik Pedersen - the current assistant - to take over. It's said that could be key to keeping Barry Bannan at the club on a new contract.

Smith and Windass' decisions to leave South Yorkshire has added to what is already a squad that is becoming decimated this summer, with the forwards leaving on free transfers to Preston North End and Wrexham respectively.

As well as their departures, Wednesday have also sold fellow attackers Anthony Musaba to Samsunspor and Djeidi Gassama to Rangers, with youngster Caelan Cadamarteri moving to Manchester City.

In terms of players leaving at the end of their contracts, too, Pol Valentin also joined Preston earlier this summer with Michael Ihiekwe moving to Blackpool and Mallik Wilks transferring to Turkish outfit Pendikspor.

Callum Paterson, who has just joined MK Dons, was among those to depart at the end of their deals at the end of June, alongside Ben Hamer, Akin Famewo, Ryo Hatsuse, Marvin Johnson and Stuart Armstrong, whilst last year's Player of the Season, Shea Charles, has returned to parent club Southampton with other loanees; James Beadle and Ibrahim Cissoko, also leaving.

Rohl came in to Wednesday towards the start of the 2023/24 campaign, following a poor stint in charge by Xisco Munoz, and steered them to safety, becoming one of the most highly rated coaches in the EFL.

His tenure is now seemingly about to come to an end in regrettable circumstances, and there will be concerns over the short, medium and long-term future of the club. They begin their Championship campaign against Leicester City on Sunday 10th August.
