FC Copenhagen have reportedly signed another familiar face to fans of Dutch football. Following Pantelis Hatzidiakos and Marcos López, Dominik Kotarski is also moving to the Danish capital.
The Croatian former Ajax goalkeeper joins from PAOK Saloniki and will be joining the reigning champions in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League.
Kotarski was under contract with Ajax from 2018 to 2022, but only played for Jong Ajax in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. After a loan spell at HNK Gorica, the former Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper signed a permanent contract with the club three years ago.
The Croatian stopper was immediately sold on to PAOK for two million euros, where he attracted the attention of bigger clubs. This summer, he was once again on the radar of Ajax.
While the Amsterdam side ultimately decided to loan Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros and are in the process of signing youth international Joeri Heerkens, Kotarski is now transferring to Copenhagen. The Danish champions have already shown their ambition in the transfer market by signing not only López (on loan from Feyenoord last season) and Hatzidiakos (on loan from Cagliari last year), but also Youssoufa Moukoko.
There was a need for reinforcement under the bar, as former Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj is returning to Borussia Dortmund after his loan spell. Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet (37) was considered for the vacancy, according to Danish media, but Kotarski was chosen. Tipsbladet reports that the transfer fee for the Croatian goalkeeper is five million euros plus bonuses.
