Carney Chukwuemeka appears to have begun his reintegration to the main Chelsea squad after spending the majority of the last couple of months with the outcast “bomb squad” as the club tried to ship him out.

They couldn’t find a taker – according to Football Insider, because the Blues insisted on a loan for the former Aston Villa man.

Their report also has some figures in which leads to some pretty uncomfortable arithmetic.

If Chukwuemeka is on £100,000 a week as they claim, and signed 24 months ago, he’s earned £10.8m in his time at the club. He’s played 616 minutes in all competitions in that time, meaning when you add in his £20m transfer fee, Chelsea have paid £30.8m total for those 616 minutes, which works out at £50,000 per minute of Carney on the pitch.

It’s nobody’s fault that he got that injury last season – although he definitely could have been used more in the previous year. We still see great potential in him now, and we’re not really sure what summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall offers that he doesn’t. But it seems that the mind of the sporting directors is already made up, and we’re going to see further attempts to move Chukwuemeka on in January and next summer.

One person who is clearly a huge fan is Noni Madueke, who raved about Carney’s talent in a recent interview. It’s a long way back for the the 20 year old, but as we’ve seen with Ben Chilwell, there’s always a chance as long as they stay fit and wait for their chance. He faces an even longer queue for first team minutes than his teammate, but with European football and the Carabao Cup starting up, he’s only ever a few injuries or suspensions away from a chance.
