Lille OSC’s preparation for tonight’s match against Borussia Dortmund was not made any easier following the weekend’s disappointment.

A trip to the Parc des Princes on Saturday evening saw Bruno Génésio’s side soundly beaten 4-1 by Paris Saint-Germain. The league leaders tore to a four goal lead in the first half, with only a consultation from Jonathan David late in the second half managing to make the scoreline look slightly more competitive.

Génésio took ownership for the performance after the game, with the head coach stating “I take 100% responsibility for the bad tactical choices, the system, whatever you want, since I’m the one who did it. I’m the one responsible for what we didn’t show in the first half.”

However, this result has not dragged Génésio down as he explained to the press in his pre-match press conference, “Bouncing back is the essence of our job, whether it’s us, the staff or the team. [We can bounce back] very quickly because of two reasons. The first I already said it after the match, I did almost everything wrong in the match. The second because we played one of the best teams in Europe at the moment.”

Génésio expanded on this point, “The most important thing is not to ask why we lost, but above all to correct and improve what didn’t work on Saturday.”

Lille travel to the Signal Iduna Park for the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie where they will be tasked with another giant killing in a season where they have already felled Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid. However, Génésio was clear on the point that they could not simply rely on their past successes.
