Brighton Women name Maisie Symonds as captain for the 2025-26 season | OneFootball

Brighton Women have announced that their longest-serving player, Maisie Symonds, will be first-team captain for the 2025-26 season.

Symonds joined Brightin in 2021 and has gone on to make 74 appearances for the club.

Having regularly represented England’s U23s, the 22-year-old received her first Lionesses call-up last season.

Supporters have watched her grow into a figure who sets the tone in midfield and speaks for the group in the tough moments. Coaches have valued her balance, reading of play and ability to stay calm on the ball.

What Maisie Symonds said after being named Brighton captain?

Maisie Symonds told the Brighton website after being named as captain: “It’s a really nice feeling to know that the people you work with and respect have that belief in you.

“To be the captain is a massive role, I feel overwhelmed with happiness at the moment. There is a lot of experienced players within the squad and I’m sure I will continue to lean on them, not only me but every single member of the squad.

“Everyone will lead in different moments; everyone will have to pick each other up. Everyone has a different role to play but I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic added: “We’re delighted that Maisie has accepted the role of being the squad’s captain. She’s been at the club for five seasons and really embodies everything that Brighton stands for.

“Her leadership on and off the pitch is admirable and she understands the importance of this role and will help drive the standards of the team both on and off the pitch every day. She’s loved by the fans, respected by staff and players and we’re incredibly proud of her.”

Who have Brighton signed this summer?

Brighton have strengthened with smart additions that add quality and depth in key areas.

Chiamaka Nnadozie arrives in goal after an impressive summer with Nigeria. Moeka Minami offers composure at the back while Manuela Vanegas adds bite and delivery from the left.

In attack, Carla Camacho gives Vidosic another option through the middle. Rising England forward Michelle Agyemang returns on loan after a breakout summer, and Rosa Kafaji boosts competition in the forward line.

When does the 2025-26 WSL season begin?

Brighton opens their WSL campaign at home against Aston Villa on Sunday, September 7th. It is a platform for Symonds to lead from the first whistle and a chance for new faces to settle in front of home fans.

The Seagulls also face Manchester City, West Ham and Everton during the opening month of the season.
