Birmingham City are interested in Kyoto Sanga forward Taichi Hara as Chris Davies looks to add another attacking option to his squad.
Blues have been very busy in the market since their return to the Championship, with Tommy Doyle, Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi among the new faces through the door at St. Andrew’s.
With Davies already working with a talented squad, many observers feel Blues’ early business will make them a force in the promotion race this season.
However, it appears they are still looking to strengthen, as Caught Offside has revealed that Hara has emerged as a target for the Midlands outfit.
The 26-year-old has had an interesting career, which started out with FC Tokyo, before he moved to Croatian side Istra, before he joined Alaves. His time in Spain didn’t go to plan, with Hara going out on loan to Sint-Truiden in Belgium, until he signed for current club Kyoto Sanga in 2023.
Hara now seems settled, as he has featured regularly in the J1-League in the past few years, which included finding the net 15 times in his first 50 games in his first two seasons.
This campaign has been different for Hara, as he has scored just twice in 19 outings, but he has registered seven assists, which is already a career high.
The update claims that his form has caught the eye of the recruitment team at St. Andrew’s, although an unnamed South Korean player is also on the shortlist as they seek to add a winger.
In truth, Hara’s CV won’t impress Blues fans too much, particularly when you look at the calibre of players that they have already signed this summer.
However, the supporters will have full faith in those making the decisions, as they have an excellent track record over the past 12 months.
The Asian market is one that Blues have found quality in before, and players from the continent who have arrived from European clubs have settled quickly at the club.
Therefore, it makes sense they are looking across the globe to strengthen the squad, and whilst Davies will be pleased with how the group looks, another versatile attacking option would be very welcome, as it’s perhaps the one area they are short.
