Bayern Munich will play against VfL Wolfsburg on matchday 18 of this edition of the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich should win this match and should do so rather comfortably considering how they have started the year with two consecutive wins.
After Die Roten tormented Hoffenheim on Wednesday, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to see them put Wolfsburg to the sword on Saturday. With the recent uptick in the scoring of more goals and the concession of less, it makes it hard to think that Bayern will draw this game, much less lose it. With VfL Wolfsburg currently sitting in seventh place with a few solid wins recently, this game may not turn out to be a blowout like their game on Wednesday, but Bayern should get a comfortable win and solidify their lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
Leroy Sane was arguably the best player on the pitch for the entirety of their thrashing of Hoffenheim. He scored two goals and ran rampant against his opponent, using his speed and his strong first touch to create chance after chance without remorse.
The German winger will be able to do much of the same versus Wolfsburg, who aren't blessed with too much pace in their backline. With his ability to break the lines and get in behind teams that don't have pacey wingbacks and/or quick center backs, he will more than likely put on a clinic in terms of creating chances for the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and even Raphael Guerriero. With his somewhat streaky finishing, he may not put up high numbers on the scoresheet for this game, but he will definitely have some type of impact if he is afforded as many minutes as he deserves.
There is no judging the talent that this man possesses, especially as a right-back who is capable and willing to get forward as much as he can to create open lanes for Sane, Olise, and Musiala. Even back when Guerreiro was a star for Borussia Dortmund, he has always been able to use his football intelligence to be in the right spot at the right time and conjure up something special in terms of scoring random world-class goals.
Although the Portuguese star has had some struggles with injuries, his impact on the team--primarily in the offensive half--is not to be overlooked. When he is partnered alongside Dayot Upamecano, the two defenders' speed and technical abilities shine, and the more they get the ball going forward, the more they can affect what happens on the rest of the pitch. I wouldn't bet against Guerreiro scoring another goal or grabbing an assist to add to his tally from last week.
"Der Raumdeuter" may be considered Bayern's greatest player of all time; if somebody came to me and said it must be Thomas Muller, I wouldn't disagree with them. I think everything he has done for the club cannot be overlooked, and he continues to impress even as he gets older.
With an impressive assist and a few chances created last week, Muller is still in business with this team and shall continue to be until he decides it is time for him to move on. The German forward is exactly as his nickname expresses: he inspects the space on the field and somehow always tends to float right into it. I think everybody who has ever considered themselves to be a true fan of Bayern Munich--or of football in general--has to tip their hat to this gentleman for what he is capable of doing, and I wouldn't be shocked if he gets a few minutes and notches another goal contribution against Wolfsburg on Saturday.
