La Liga giants Barcelona are currently unable to renew the contract of defender Iñigo Martínez.
That’s according to Marca, who have on Friday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
Stopper Iñigo has of course enjoyed a superb campaign to date on the books of Barcelona, taking advantage of the early-season injury problems at the heart of Hansi Flick’s defence to establish himself as a pivotal figure.
Deco and the Blaugrana board, in turn, have long made clear to the former Athletic Club star their intention to renew his contract beyond its current expiration in the summer.
As of yet, however, they have been unable to follow through on this promise.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of Marca that:
‘The club has seen that it does not have the Fair Play to renew his contract after the extension of the contracts of Araújo, Pedri, Gavi and Cubarsí.’
Contacts are ongoing with La Liga in an effort to find a resolution, but as of this moment, Iñigo will need to be patient when it comes to his renewal.
