Atletico Madrid have already started making plans for their squad ahead of the next season, and one of their first moves could involve securing the long-term future of a player who is already within their ranks.
Rather than looking for an external signing, the club appear to be prioritising the permanent stay of Clement Lenglet, who is currently on loan from Barcelona, claims a report from Fichajes.
Since arriving at Atletico Madrid, Lenglet has impressed Diego Simeone with his performances, making a strong case for the club to retain him beyond his loan spell.
Although the initial agreement between Atletico and Barcelona did not include a purchase clause, Atletico’s management are reportedly keen to make his stay permanent.
The club is prepared to put forward an offer in the region of €15 million to acquire the French defender, a figure that Barcelona could be willing to accept.

Offloading Lenglet would allow Barça to reduce their wage bill and offload a player who does not fit into Hansi Flick’s long-term plans.
Lenglet’s form since moving to Madrid has been a major factor in Atletico’s willingness to keep him. He has seamlessly integrated into Simeone’s defensive setup, adding much-needed stability to a backline that has struggled with consistency in recent seasons.
His versatility, with the ability to play across different defensive roles, along with his experience at the highest level, has further convinced Atletico that he is a valuable asset for the team.
At this stage, formal negotiations between the two clubs have yet to begin, but all signs point towards Atletico making Lenglet their first signing for the 2025-26 season.
Unless unexpected complications arise, it seems increasingly likely that the French defender will continue his career at the Metropolitano on a permanent basis.
