The mood in north London has been charged with expectation for weeks. With the summer transfer window already in motion, Arsenal fans are watching every decision made by the board with bated breath. Among so many names being linked to the club, both in terms of arrivals and potential departures, one stands out for his tactical importance and experience: Thomas Partey.

His current contract is coming to an end soon, and talks to renew him have not come to fruition. Uncertainty over his future intensifies as Mikel Arteta plans for next season with ambition intact.

Arsenal and Thomas Partey: Stalemate in negotiations and possible imminent departure

According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Arsenal and the 32-year-old to extend his contract have stalled. So far, no agreement has been reached, and the chances of the midfielder leaving the club in the coming days are concrete.

If no resolution is reached, Partey would be released, available as a free agent, which would mark the end of his time at the Emirates. In the meantime, the club are looking at options in the market to strengthen the midfield, although no definitive decisions have been made. The situation suggests that both parties could be preparing for a goodbye without conflict or reproach, but with clear effects on the balance of the squad.

Opinion:

From my perspective, letting Partey go without financial compensation would be an administrative mistake. Players with his profile are in short supply. He is good with his tactical reading, physical presence, and, when fit, imposes order in midfield. That said, the Ghana international’s constant injuries and lack of continuity have taken him out of the limelight.

If the club believes that his time has passed, it is understandable to bet on a renewal of the midfield. But allowing an asset of his value to leave for free leaves Arsenal financially exposed. Nor is it a guarantee that youngsters like Rice can fully assume that defensive midfielder’s role in demanding matches.

Their departure can open up space for new dynamics, yes, but it has to be done with planning. If Arteta believes Partey can still be useful, the club should make a little more effort to renew him. If not, the departure should have been organised in advance to avoid losses. What is clear is that his departure will not go unnoticed, and if the season starts with shortages in the middle, this decision will be seen in a different light.
