Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani caused a stir in the media due to a volatile response, while also discussing the club’s transfer plans.
The 63-year-old is having an uncharacteristically quiet summer, especially with Lazio prohibited from signing any players due to a ban imposed by COVISOC. The director also skipped the club’s Turkish tour which included back-to-back friendlies against Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. Fabiani’s absence didn’t go unnoticed, as some fans and observers criticized him for staying behind.
However, the Lazio official didn’t take this chastizing lightly. Instead, he launched a scathing counter-attack, as he insisted that he has every right to take a vacation to celebrate his birthday with his family, as he stated in his interview with Il Tempo (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
It’s true, I was away to spend my birthday with my family. If some beggar doesn’t have these values, too bad for him. I don’t have to answer to anyone. Besides, I haven’t understood the meaning of the word ‘vacation’ for many years.
Aside from Fabiani’s unceremonious statement regarding his vacation, he once again reiterated Lazio’s intention to keep their squad intact by refusing to sell anyone, but he also left the door open for the departure of those who will be left out of Maurizio Sarri’s Serie A squad list.
As I said before, we’re not selling anyone. The project is moving forward, the group is growing. Now I’m just waiting for Sarri’s instructions on the players who will be left off the list.
The manager will have to exclude two players from his list. The main candidates for the chopping block are Toma Basic, Tijjani Noslin, Samuel Gigot, Patric, Manuel Lazzari and Elseid Hysaj.
