The UEFA Champions League tie between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain is finely poised. PSG are currently 25th and on course for a shock elimination at the revamped ‘League Phase’ of the competition. Manchester City’s prospects of qualifying, however, were also dealt a blow this week, following a defeat to Serie A giants Juventus.

PSG and Manchester City will face each other on 22nd January, in the penultimate gameweek of the ‘League Phase’ with just one point separating them. For both, it is a key, potentially decisive match that will decide their Champions League for this season.

Following Les Parisiens’ 3-0 win over RB Salzburg on Tuesday, Luis Enrique said that he was displeased with his side’s performance in Austria, despite the result, before then previewing the next Champions League game, against Pep Guardiola’s struggling ‘Cityzens’.

“It was important to score tonight because, for one goal, you can be out of the Champions League. You have to go match by match. There is Manchester City now, a very small team,” said the PSG manager. After Manchester City, the reigning Ligue 1 champions face VfB as they look to secure their qualification for the play-off phase of the competition.
