£5 million for Kone, Celtic should be all over that…

A player whose name has been mentioned on the Celtic transfer rumour mill several times in recent weeks now has had a £5 million price tag placed on his head, and it’s a deal we should be all over.

The player in question is Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone who has been the subject of two recent failed bids from English championship clubs, and it’s a deal we should be looking to make as he aims to to bolster our attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Kone scored 18 goals league goals on his way to being named League One Player of the Year and Leicester and Swansea are among the clubs pushing for his signature. Where are Celtic?

The price tag has been set at £5 million for an up and coming talent is nothing these days, and the young Ivorian is a player who would fit our transfer strategy, but more importantly he would inject some much needed quality into our squad.

Some may scoff that he plays in England’s third tier, but so did Matt O’Riley when we came knocking and look how that turned out!

A certain Gary Hooper also made his name in the lower reaches of English football before being brought north by Neil Lennon, and was and still is highly regarded and respected in the eyes of the Celtic supporters due to his goalscoring exploits.

It’s a deal that is well within our reach, but then again the way our club operates in recruitment it could all prove too much…

It’s only modest ambition this one but is that still too much for the Celtic Board to sanction?
