According to Spanish media Fichajes, Everton, Tottenham and West Ham are in the race to sign Takefusa Kubo. The Japanese winger has made it clear to his current club, Real Sociedad, that he wants to leave Reale Arena this summer. Kubo has a release clause of €60 million in his contract, which all three clubs are considering activating, although the initial offers have been around €40 million, as per the above-stated report.

More about the transfer report:

Everton recently secured Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City, but their search for a winger is not over. Tyrique George’s name is also on their list, yet Kubo can become their priority in the remaining days of the transfer window. 24-year-old Kubo has previously played for Real Madrid, La Masia and has consistently performed well in La Liga. He has been one of the youngest sensations in the Spanish League and has also been termed as the ‘Japanese Messi’. Now the question is in which direction this transfer will go between the three clubs, and who will meet the demand of €60 million.

Talking about his performances in the 2024/25 season, Kubo scored five goals in 36 matches so far in the La Liga 2024/2025 season. Overall, the 24-year-old’s goals scored per 90 minutes were 0.19. Moreover, Kubo’s total G/A (goals + assists) was five for this season. His goal involvement equated to 0.19 per 90 minutes, and his Non-Penalty xG per 90 minutes was 0.21 (stats by FootyStats).

Would Kubo really be the right choice for Everton?

Kubo would be a huge upgrade for Everton, especially on the right flank of the attack. His pace, dribbling abilities and chance-creating ability would give the Toffees depth in their attack, as they keep fighting to stay alive in the Premier League in the last few seasons. However, offers from Tottenham and West Ham could entice him, given they are in way better shape than the Toffees currently.

If Everton still manage to convince the Spanish club and the Japanese player, Kubo would not only help score goals but also add a new dimension to the team’s transition play. His experience would fit in with the pace of the Premier League, provided the club give him the right role in their attack. In our opinion, Everton should go all out for this deal because a player like Kubo is not often found in the market, but we have our reservations about whether he will choose Goodison Park as an option or not.
