FC Barcelona had to contend with injuries to several important players at the end of the 2024-25 season, including those of the fullbacks Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde, and the centre-forward Robert Lewandowski.
In such a context, several other players stood up to the challenge and helped Hansi Flick’s team get the required results in most matches. The most surprising of these players was the fullback Gerard Martin, who started for Flick in Balde’s absence, and did not give the Catalans too much cause to miss the latter.
His good performances in this last stretch of the season also earned him a call-up for the Spanish team in the UEFA European U-23 Championship. However, he suffered an injury in the very first game of this competition and will have to undergo surgery on Tuesday to recover from this issue.
Meanwhile, his stature in the market has also grown, and some English teams, Wolves and Bournemouth, have been interested in his signing.
None of these sides have made a formal approach to Barcelona, however, and if an offer arrives, the Catalans can let the defender leave for around €15 million, even though the club is also counting on him for the next season.
Furthermore, they also understand that if he leaves, they will have to get another backup fullback, something that was not a part of their plans for this summer.

However, according to SPORT, Martin’s intention is not to leave the Blaugrana club, as he is delighted with the prominence he has enjoyed this season. His dream is to play and succeed with Barcelona, and he wants to take advantage of the opportunities that have come his way.
Thus, for now, the defender is thinking only about recovering from his injury and then starting the preseason with Hansi Flick on July 13th. There is still a lot of time left till the market closes, but for now, everything indicates that Gerard Martin will remain at Barcelona.
