Interesting to see the club hierarchy now hard at work on new contracts for Newcastle United players.

At his pre-Manchester City press conference, Eddie Howe stated that contract talks were ongoing with Fabian Schar.

Emil Krafth also has his representatives in talks with the club on an extension to his current deal.

Both Newcastle United defenders see their existing contracts come to an end on 30 June 2025.

Another player who is expected to extend his current NUFC position, is Martin Dubravka. In an interview with Sky Sports, the goalkeeper saying he expects a deal to be agreed soon to take his 30 June 2025 end of contract to a time further in the future, the club in talks with his representatives.

In December (2024), it was widely reported that the club had unilaterally triggered a one year contract extension for Sean Longstaff, his deal extended to the end of June 2026, rather than June 2025.

Recent days have seen The Athletic reveal that Newcastle United have the same unilateral option with Callum Wilson. The striker sees his current deal set to end on 30 June 2025 and it is up to the club whether to add another year on, plus they have the luxury of being able to wait until after this season had ended, to decide whether they want to take Wilson up to 30 June 2026.

How the Newcastle United contracts situation now looks (via official club releases and media reports), when current deals are up:

End of June 2025:

Dubravka, Schar, Wilson, Lascelles, Krafth, Gillespie, Ruddy, Lewis

End of June 2026:

Burn, Targett, Pope, Longstaff, Ashby, Hayden, Trippier

End of June 2027:

Botman, Jacob Murphy, Willock

End of June 2028:

Tonali, Isak, Barnes, Livramento, Bruno, Miley, Joelinton, Alex Murphy

End of June 2029:

Kelly (on loan at Juventus who have an obligation to buy), Hall, Gordon

A very strong position for Newcastle United when it comes to contracts, with the very best players having years left on their deals.

It is looking very likely that Krafth, Schar and Dubravka will extend their deals, almost certainly by a year each. That will surely be the ideal for the club with all three in their thirties and more than likely not first choice next season. With far more scope to at last bring in some real contenders for the first eleven, after three tough transfer windows where no first team contenders came in, due to PSR restrictions.

If that trio agree new deals, that then leaves the possibility of an extra year for Callum Wilson, then Jamal Lewis surely leaving for sure. Of the others seeing deals end on 30 June 2025, Ruddy and Gillespie with big question marks on their futures, plus Lascelles who will hopefully return from injury before the season is out.
